My Playlist, My Self

Bridget's Playlist:

1. One of Those Nights -Tim McGraw
2.      Bubbly - Colbie Caillat
3.      Skinny Love – Bon Iver
4.      Wasted Time - Keith Urban
5.      House that Built Me – Miranda Lambert

·         These songs are important to me because I feel they best represent who I am as a person and my free spirit.

When first encountered:
1.      One of Those Nights: July of 2016 in the car when listening to Pandora radio on my way to college orientation
2.      Bubbly: three years ago when I lost my first soccer game my mother showed me this song to make me feel better
3.      Skinny Love: Young Life camp in Minnesota; Junior year in high school
4.      Wasted Time: May of 2016 on my way to graduation practice
5.      House that Built Me: a week before I left my home for college; shown to me by my sister
·
My playlist shows that I have a fun side as well as a compassionate/empathetic side. My choices very accurately reflect who I am as a person.
·
After listening to my playlist people would learn that I have had to say goodbye to many things but I have learned how to still enjoy life and live it to the fullest. I acknowledge that unfortunate things happen but have learned how to move past them. They wouldn’t be able to learn that I am still struggling with some things and am terrified for the future being that I do not know what I want to do yet.
·         Some incorrect assumptions people might make would be that I do not know a wide variety of music and only stick to certain genres. They also might assume that I am a bandwagon being that I picked very popular pieces of music from all of these artists.
My playlist suggests that I relate to something larger or life in general in a more spiritual manner more than anything. These songs all touch base with a greater meaning and deeper message within the lyrics. These songs represent how I appreciate all life has to offer and try to find the brighter side of any situation. I always try to remember to look at the bigger picture. The songs by Tim McGraw, Colbie Caillat, and Keith Urban are more upbeat songs and relate to the brighter aspects and bigger picture of life. Bon Iver and Miranda Lambert’s songs base themselves in a more reflective aspect of something larger or life. It suggests that something larger can consist of many different things and types of situations.

  1. By listening to your playlist and reading where you first heard the songs I can tell that you like to spend time with friends and have fun; but you also have a softer side. I really agree with your opinion that there are many goodbyes in life and that you have to find a way around the hard times in order to live life to its fullest. If you don’t live life to the fullest you will miss many experiences that will help you grow as a person. It’s really easy to see that you appreciate all that life has to offer and that you always try to find the best in every situation.

  2. I do believe that in your song choice people may view you as someone who chooses popular songs, however from my personal experience I can tell that music has a special place in your heart and mind. I can see where in the songs you can relate to the hard times and how music has helped you through it. I can also see that you enjoy having fun and I would make the assumption that music is very dear to you and has help you on many occasion whether they were good or bad. In this playlist the genre is not very spread out which in my mind is okay, but reading your post I could see that you do enjoy other types of music. It also shows me that you do everything you can to keep from feeling down.
